MEANING OF MANAGEMENT

management is a process of getting things done with the aim of achieving goal effectively and efficiently

 The concept of management institute on three terms:

1. Process: refers to a series or sequence of steps management is a process because it performs a series of functions to get things done. These functions are planning organizing staffing directing and controlling.

2 effectiveness: it is concerned with doing the right task completing activities and achieving goal in other words it is concerned with the end result being effective or doing work effectively means finishing the given task for achieving the goal.

 3 Efficiency: It referred to do the tasks in the right way with minimum cost and optimum utilization of resources efficiency in walls cost-benefit analysis it focuses on driving more benefits by using less resources it instead on using less input such as money materials equipment persons to get more output management is concerned with efficient use of resources because reduction in cost leads to higher profit


CHARACTERISTICS OR FEATURES OF MANAGEMENT

1.Management is a goal oriented process :management always aims at achieving organisational objectives the function and activities of manager lead to the achievement of organisational objectives of management unites the efforts of different individual in the organisation towards achieving common goals

2.Management is pervasive : management is pervasive managerial activities are performed in all types of organisation in all departments and not at all level management is required in all the organisation whether big or small manufacturing of servicing organisation profit and nonprofit making organisation concept of management is used in the world World war II manager do in India USA Germany or Japan is same how they do it may be quite different.

3 Management is multidimensional: management does not mean one single activity but it includes three main activities management of work management of people management of operations.

(a) management of work. all organisations are set up to perform some tasks Ongole management activities help at a savings goals or task to be accomplished that ask odd word depend upon the nature of business for example of work to be accomplished in school in is providing education in hospitals to treat patient in industry to manufacture some product management makes sure that work is a complete effectively and efficiently.

(b) Management of people:  people refer to human resources and human resources are the most important asset of an organisation management has to get the task accomplished through people by making their strength effective and their weakness development managing people has two dimensions taking care of employee and usually means taking care of group of people

(c) Management of operations operations refers to activities organisations cycle such as buying inputs converting them into semi finished goods management of operation creates on mixing management of work with management of people deciding what work has to be done how it has to be done and who will do it

4 Management is a continuous process management is a continuous or never-ending function all the functions of management are performed continuously, for example, planning organizing staffing directing and controlling are performed by all the managers of all the time sometimes they are doing planning then stopping or organising a sector manager perform ongoing series of functions continuously in the organisation

5 Management is a group activity management always refer to a group of people involved in managerial activities each individual performs his or her role at his status and department then only management functions can be executed even the result of the management affect every individual and every department of the organization so it's always referred to the group effort not the individual effort of one person

6.Management is a Dynamic function management has to make changes in goal objectives and other activities according to changes taking place in the environment the external environment such as social-economical technical and political environment has great influence over the management as changes take place in the environment same are implemented in the organisation to survive in the competitive world.

7. Intangible: management function cannot be physically seen but its presence can be felt the presence of management can be filled by seeing the order line ants and coordination in the working environment
